2021 American Silver Eagle Coin BU (Type 1)

After 35 years of continuous production, the 2021 American Silver Eagle will undergo a historic redesign. And as the US Mint gears up for the brand-new American Eagle reverse design release, there will be a multi-month "Type 1" American Silver Eagles run.

The US Mint issues millions of American Silver Eagles annually in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and struck from 99.9% pure silver. Each American Silver Eagle has a face value of $1 (USD), backed by the US Government, and is considered legal tender.

The American Silver Eagle's obverse presents the historic Walking Liberty, originally designed by Adolph A. Weinman and featured on the iconic Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. Below is the coin's year of issue. The reverse features legendary Chief Engraver John Mercanti's heraldic eagle design with inscriptions for the one troy ounce coin weight; the term "FINE SILVER," indicating the 99.9% pure silver content; and the term "ONE DOLLAR," denoting it as US legal tender.

American Silver Eagles can be struck at the West Point Mint, the San Francisco Mint, and the Philadelphia Mint to supplement production occasionally. No mintage caps exist on American Silver Eagle coins, and annual mintage numbers are demand-driven.
